February 2016 - NewsRaiser - President's Letter
Dear AFP of Eastern Oklahoma Chapter Professionals & Friends:
Do you find yourself already knee-deep in your 2016 fundraising strategy? Or do you feel uncertain as to what path to take?
February is the month of endless possibilities! With January to reflect, dream, plan and prepare, now 11 months stretch before us to achieve what we envision. But all too often I’ve looked up from my work to find it’s suddenly October, and I’ve longed to turn over the hourglass for do-over.
In a profession measured in dollars and cents the margin for error feels razor thin. So it’s easy to bury ourselves in perfecting the process rather than getting up and out to make things happen. But as successful fundraisers, we know that our organizations are only as good as the plans we enact, not the ones we keep up on the shelf.
If you’re still polishing that perfect plan, I challenge to you call good, good enough and put it into action. Check out blog posts The Done Manifesto and Perfect is the Enemy of Good which may help pull you out of that rut and take the risk to progress rather than to perfect.
On January 8 your AFP of Eastern Oklahoma Board of Directors convened its annual retreat and launched its plan to enhance the Inclusion, Relevance and Influence of our chapter and heighten your membership experience. In the pursuit of Relevance, I encourage you to participate as a mentor, mentee or both for the return of our AFP Mentorship Program for which sign-ups begin this month. The CFRE course will also be back this year, and more scholarships will be available to help you fund your certification, as well as attend the AFP International Conference or AFP Leadership Academy in preparation for chapter service. We’re also working on a national speaker to join us this summer in partnership with the Oklahoma City chapter. Do you have an idea for the perfect speaker? Let me know!
Eleven months lay before us full of possibility. Harness the resources of your AFP chapter to achieve your personal and professional goals. I look forward to celebrating your successes with you as the year unfolds.
